Are refurbished phones good?

In our opinion, refurbished phones are the best thing since sliced bread. Sure, you might not be getting a brand new phone that’s never been used before, but you might as well be when you buy from Aznu. Plus, they’re good for your bank account and good for the environment too.

However, not all refurbished phones are built (or should we say rebuilt) the same, which is why so many people are understandably cautious about whether getting a refurbished phone is worth it. That’s why we’ve put together this guide to help you make an informed decision and, if you do decide to go refurbished, how to get the best quality for your hard-earned money.

What are the pros and cons of getting a refurbished phone?

As with most things in life, a little research is always advised rather than blindly buying a refurbished phone. Here are some of the pros and cons to consider, along with how Aznu resolves some of the cons that come with buying from other providers.

The pros

  • Lower price: Like with most previously owned items, a second-hand phone is cheaper than a brand new one. In fact, buying refurbished can save you hundreds of pounds upfront or over the duration of a contract.
  • Pristine condition: A refurbished phone isn’t like any second-hand phone, owing to the comprehensive refurbishment it undergoes. Sometimes, these mobiles don’t even have any issues in the first place, the original owners have just changed their minds. This means you essentially get a brand new phone, but for less!
  • Warranty period: You might think that you’d be unable to send back a phone that’s already been returned by someone else, but this isn’t the case. Refurbished phones almost always have a warranty period. All the mobiles here at Aznu have a 12-month warranty.

The cons

  • Older models: If you’re someone who always likes to have the latest release, then buying a refurbished phone may not be the right move for you. Naturally, these are unlikely to be on the refurbished market right away.
  • More difficult to insure: Refurbished phones are more difficult to insure, as providers can be reluctant to offer cover for a pre-used phone. However, with a little shopping around. you should be able to find an insurer willing to do so.
  • Scratches and scuffs: Although you could receive a refurbished phone that either wasn’t used or was owned briefly, it’s a distinct possibility you’ll get one showing wear and tear. While refurbished phones undergo cosmetic repairs, certain blemishes can be difficult to remove, which is why many companies often grade them from A to D. However, we don’t do this here at Aznu as all of our phones are in pristine condition — more on this later.

The Aznu difference: Why our refurbished phones are worth it

Aznu isn’t just any refurbished phone company. There are so many things that set us apart from the crowd and make buying refurbished phones worth it, including the following:

1. Our phones look brand new, because they pretty much are

We’re not going to lie and tell you that you’ll get a new phone with Aznu. But there’s actually no way you’ll be able to tell — honest. Remember what we just said about marks and scratches? With our premium refurbishment process), not only will you receive a phone in perfect working condition, we make sure there are no blemishes either.

So, while you won’t technically receive a new phone with Aznu, you might as well be. It will be good as new — hence our name: Aznu (get it?).

We believe refurbished phones should be 100% perfect, every time. There’s no need to grade our phones when there are no issues to downgrade them with!

2. We don’t grade our phones, ever

As touched upon earlier, it’s common industry practice to grade refurbished phones from A to D. We think this is a bit of a minefield. Is an A-graded phone completely blemish-free? Does a C-graded phone come with broken buttons? It’s all too confusing.

We never grade our mobiles here at Aznu, as we believe refurbished phones should be 100% perfect, every time. There’s no need to grade our phones when there are no issues to downgrade them with!

3. We only sell the big brands you want

With Samsung and Apple holding over three-quarters of the UK mobile phone market, we cut straight to what the people want by only refurbishing top Samsung phones and Apple iPhones. This includes the Samsung S range, Galaxy, Note, and of course the famous Apple iPhone range.

We don’t just stock one generation either, ensuring there’s a phone for everyone regardless of your budget. Whether you need it instead of a brand new latest-model phone, as a gift for someone else or as a last-minute replacement, you’re sure to find the mobile you need with us.

By refurbishing a phone, it gets a second life and doesn’t end up in landfill. So, by buying one yourself, you’re not just doing your bit for your pocket, but for the planet too.

4. Buying Aznu means you don’t add to the e-waste pile

Discarded phones are a waste of valuable resources and squander the opportunity to recycle and reuse them. Not just this, but sending them to landfill does environmental damage too. Phones can leak lead, contaminating water and releasing damaging chemicals into the air.

By refurbishing a phone, it gets a second life and doesn’t end up in landfill. So, by buying one yourself, you’re not just doing your bit for your pocket, but for the planet too.

Are refurbished phones reliable?

With Aznu’s comprehensive refurbishment process, you can rest easy knowing that your refurbished phone will be in tip-top condition. While we can’t guarantee that it won’t suffer any issues later down the line, the same is true of any phone, and our warranty means we’ll sort these out for you if they occur within the first year.

What’s more, to help further enhance that new-phone feeling, we also throw in 12 months of Norton 360 Deluxe internet security and VPN protection. People often worry that a refurbished phone isn’t as secure as a new one, particularly online. However, add these protections to the fact we wipe phones to Ministry of Defence standards, and you can be confident in its reliability.

Do refurbished phones have new batteries?

It’s understandable to be worried that a refurbished phone won’t have the same battery life as a brand new mobile. After all, this is the main source of power for it to work.

All Aznu mobiles have a minimum battery capacity of 85% — though it’s usually more.

While we can’t guarantee that a refurbished phone you buy from us will have a new battery, all Aznu mobiles have a minimum battery capacity of 85% — though it’s usually more. And of course, if there are any problems, every Aznu phone has a 12-month warranty period, which naturally covers the battery.
